Addamo, Adams, and Bonomo Among Big Sunday Winners

February 16 2021
Matthew Pitt

Online poker tournaments are massive on Sundays and this fact along brings out the game’s best players. Michael Addamo, Timothy Adams, and Justin Bonomo are just three of those stellar names who managed to take down a Sunday major this weekend.
Addamo Takes Down GGPoker Sunday 500 High Rollers $5,250
Michael Addamo enjoyed a super Sunday courtesy of triumphing in the Sunday 500 High Rollers $5,250, a tournament that attracted 113 of the world’s best players to the GGPoker virtual felt.
Addamo’s first bullet didn’t go to plan and he crashed out in 76th place. He re-entered and put used his new stack to full effect.
The likes of Kristen Bicknell, Matthias Eibinger, Elio Fox, Benjamin Rolle, and Anatoly Filatov busted inside the money places but before the star-studded final table.
Austria’s “Filip1” was the final table’s first casualty. Their ninth-place exit awarding a $14,833 prize.
Alex Foxen and David Yan then busted. Yan would go on to take down Sunday High Rollers Bounty King $3,150 for $49,300 later in the evening.
The exits of Michael Zhang, Aleksei Barkov, Pascal Hartmann, and David Peters left Addamo heads-up against Wiktor Malinowski. Addamo rarely loses when he’s heads-up and that was the case again here. Addamo collected $131,187 for his victory while Malinowski banked $99,898 for his runner-up finish.
Defeating Malinowski will go some way to making up for losing a massive $842,000 cash game pot last year.

WPT GTO Trainer Hands of the Week: Battling the Big Blind

February 16 2021
LearnWPT

With a 100 big blind effective stack, you open-raise to 3bbs in the Cutoff seat and get called by the player in the Big Blind.
This scenario shows a common spot where you are in position against a tough opponent in the Big Blind on the flop after you were the preflop aggressor.
Against a less-skilled opponent automatically c-betting a standard size is often the best play. These types of opponents are less likely to put pressure on your c-bets by making moves on the flop.

Against tougher players you’ll need to focus on board texture to determine the best continuation bet sizing and identify flops where checking behind will be the best play. Generally you can use smaller c-bet sizes on dry, static flops that don’t have many equity changing turn cards. For example, larger c-bet sizing is not required on a flop of rainbow.
On more coordinated boards that still favor you as the raiser, such as with a flush draw, you can use a larger c-bet sizing. Tough opponents will have robust check-raising ranges as part of their overall Big Blind Defense strategy, so be aware of not over folding hands with too much equity when your c-bet gets check-raised.
You will often be put to tough decisions with marginal hands, with the correct decision often coming down to understanding the effects of blockers. If you hold cards that interfere with your opponent’s ability to have strong hands, you should be more likely to call down in the hand. If your cards interfere with their ability to have bluffs, you should be more likely to fold.
For more GTO hand analysis, you can play through five solved random hands from this situation.

WPT GTO Trainer Hands of the Week: Restealing Against The Button

Today you’ll be playing a common tournament spot where you reraise from the Big Blind against a tough Button that has a fairly wide opening range. When facing a player with a high steal frequency, you should combat this by widening both your calling range and reraising range from the Big Blind.
Since this is a tough player, we should not fire a continuation bet 100% of the time on the flop. On boards that favor the caller’s range such as connected, coordinated, middle cards flops, we should check with a large portion of our range. This is also true of many flops with two broadway cards, as these boards connect well with the caller’s range in this low Stack to Pot Ratio (SPR) spot. When we do c-bet, we should generally use a small sizing of around ¼ pot.

On the turn after your c-bet gets called, you should generally fire a second bullet on cards that improve your equity in the hand or improve your range’s equity. You also want to make sure that you are pursuing value with your big hands such as overpairs. Do not give cheap or free cards in a pot that is now very large when you have a strong but vulnerable one-pair hand.
When you check-call on the flop, you should pay attention to whether the turn card improves your range or Villain’s range. If it improves your range, consider donk-leading out on the turn or check-raising all-in. Both are viable options to maximize your equity realization on these cards that benefit you.
Finally, when considering making a call on the river, always be aware of where your hand falls in your overall range. If you have one of the better possible hands you can end up with in that situation, consider calling or reraising. If your hand is fairly low down in your range in that spot, you can simply give it up and fold on the river.
As a reminder, the correct play may not always result in you winning the hand since we focus on long-term winning plays and not the results of any one hand.

Brush Up on Your Omaha Skills with 888poker’s Vivian Saliba

February 15 2021
888poker

We’re very excited that Omaha has finally been added to the new 888poker mobile app. The mobile app was already ‘Made to Play’ offering a new portrait mode, smooth multi-tabling, and an unprecedented level of customization.
To celebrate this latest update, Team 888’s Vivian Saliba has recorded a video with her top tips to this “simple game.”
Very Simple Game
Saliba says that Omaha or Pot-Limit Omaha is a “very simple game,” as instead of two cards, you receive four cards. However, the difference is that you must use two cards from your hand.
“In PLO, bets and raises are limited to how much is in the pot”
“I’ve been playing PLO for the last nine years. Personally, I love to play PLO – it’s my favourite game. There is so much fun, you have double the cards – so double the fun!”
OMAHA #### has finally gone mobile # on the new 888poker #MadeToPlay App!— 888poker (@888poker)
Saliba’s Top Tips
1. Play Connected Cards
Saliba explains that in general, a more connected hand will play better in Omaha. That means that a hand like is worse than because of the straights and flushes the second hand can create.
Double-suited cards are also good for aiming at flush draws.
2. Play Fewer Hands
Although players may be excited to have so many cards in their hands, and therefore seemingly so many options, Saliba says that it’s important to play tight preflop to ensure you’re putting yourself in a position to make as strong a hand as possible.

3. Focus on Making the Nuts
Just because you have a strong hand pre-flop – maybe pocket kings or something similar – don’t fall into the trap of overestimating these high cards or big hands.
A lot of Omaha play comes down to post-flop. Only if you’re playing heads-up or with fewer tables, then you can think about widening your range.
4. Bluff with Blockers
Although it’s important to play fewer hands and focus on making the nuts like the previous points, because there are so many cards in play it’s important to pay attention to potential blockers in your hands.
For example, if the board has four spades but you hold the then you hold the nut-flush blocker. Watch out for these good bluffing opportunities should the occasion arise.
5. Double-check your hand.
You don’t want to get to the river and have an unexpected surprise! Don’t be afraid to double-check your hand – whether you’re playing live or on the 888poker mobile app – just to make sure you have what you think you have

Darren Elias Wins First GGPoker Super MILLION$ of 2021

January 07 2021
Matthew Pitt

Darren Elias has started 2021 like a house on fire by taking down the first GGPoker Super MILLON$ event of the year. First place in this $10,300 buy-in high stakes spectacular weighed in at an incredible $448,842.
Winning almost half a million dollars during the first week of 2021 is obviously fantastic for Elias, but the manner in which he secured this prize is equally as impressive. The final table was ridiculously stacked and any one of the nine finalists would have made a worthy champion. Here’s how Elias got the job done under the watchful eye of the GGPoker YouTube stream.

Seth Davies
Seth Davies started the final table sixth in chips but he was the first superstar out of the door. Davies lost a huge pot with pocket sixes versus Aleks Ponakovs’ superior tens to be left with less than seven big blinds and he never recovered.
Davies’ final hand took place during the 30,000/60,000/7,500a level. WSOP bracelet winner Enrico Camosci opened to 120,000 on the button with pocket tens and Davies called in the big blind with nine-seven. A queen-jack-eight flop saw both players check, but a ten on the turn gifted Davies a straight. He moved all-in for 247,827 into the 337,500 pot and was called. Camosci filled up on the river courtesy of another jack landing, and Davies was gone.
Bert Stevens busted a couple of hands later. Stevens open-shoved for a shade over 13 big blinds from the button with king-queen. Rui Ferreira woke up in the small blind with a pair of jacks in the hole and he three-bet all-in for 2,605,295. Ferreira flopped a set, which held despite Stevens having a straight draw, and the final table was suddenly down to seven players.

Ponakovs Sent Packing By Camosci
Aleksejs Ponakovs
Those seven became six with the elimination of Ponakovs. The Estonian was flying high at one stage but his world came crumbling down. Ponakovs’ final hand was a battle of the blinds with Camosci. Camosci limped in from the small blind with trey-deuce of hearts and Ponakovs checked with king-seven of diamonds. Camosci bet small on the ten-four-six flop, a flop with two hearts, and Ponakovs called.
The king of hearts turn gave Camosci a small flush and Ponakovs top pair. Camosci led for 254,625 into 339,500 and was called. The river bricked and Camosci over-bet shoved, putting Ponakovs to the test for his 1,332,299 stack. Randy “Nanonoko” Lew commented the move looked like a bluff and that’s how Ponakovs saw it because he called off his stack only to be shown the bad news.
Mateos Busts Just Before The Break
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos crashed out just before the first break of the final table. Camosci min-raised to 140,000 from the cutoff with pocket threes, Ferreira called on the button with ace-king, Niklas Astedt put in calling chip in the small blind with deuces, and Mateos ripped it in for 1,497,707 with pocket tens. Only Ferreira called and soared into the chip lead courtesy of the door card being an ace.
Nothing went well for Ferreira after this point as he lost pot after pot. He was down to a mere 3.8 big blinds at the start of his final hand. That micro stack went into the middle from the cutoff with jack-five and Astedt called on the button with ace-jack. Astedt’s hand held and Ferreira went from hero to zero and busted in fifth-place.
Camosci’s run ended in a fourth-place finish during the 80,000/160,000/20,000a level. Astedt raised to 400,000 with pocket fives and Camosci called in the big blind with queen-nine. Camosci opted to move all-in for 1,444,667 into the 960,000 pot on the eight-high flop. Unfortunately for Camosci, Astedt had flopped a set and snap-called. Camosci was drawing dead after the turn.

Superstars Lock Horns Three-Handed
Elias, Ami Barer and Astedt were the last three players in the tournament, can you think of a time when such a talented trio locked horns in such a big event?
Something had to give eventually and it did when Barer busted in third. Elias sent Barer to the showers.
Elias raised slightly more than twice the big blind with 420,000 with ace-queen. Barer, in the big blind, jammed for 19 big blinds with pocket sevens, and Elias beat him into the pot with a call. A queen on the turn sealed the deal for Elias and resigned Barer to a third-place finish.
Astedt held a 14,160,341 to 8,039,659 lead over Elias and looked a dead cert to win his first Super MILLION$ event. It wasn’t meant to be, however, as Elias gained the upper hand before sending Astedt home in the runner-up spot.
The final hand started with a min-raise to 700,000 from Astedt and a jam for 12,078,400 from Elias. Astedt called and turned over pocket queens, Elias the ace-seven. Again, Elias hit top pair on the turn to win the pot and the tournament.

Three Ways To Win Your Way Into KO Series Events

January 07 2021
Matthew Pitt

The KO Series is in full swing at partypoker with dozens of players already becoming champions and padding their bankrolls with juicy prizes. There are plenty of big events on the horizon, not least the trio of KO Series Main Events that get underway on January 16.
partypoker devised a schedule with a wide range of tournament buy-ins. You can compete from as little as $0.55 and as much as $2,100 with a huge selection of buy-ins between these extremes. If you want to play in some of the higher buy-in events but don’t necessarily have the bankroll for them, we have three routes you can take to satellite into them.
KO Series SPINS
SPINS are partypoker’s take on jackpot sit & go tournaments. They are three-handed hyper-turbo sit & go games where the prize pool is randomly determined before the first hands are dealt.
KO Edition SPINS cost $10 to enter and payout in a winner-takes-all format. You’ll play for a $20 cash prize the majority of the time, but these SPINS award KO Series tickets too.
Tickets worth between $33 and $2,100 are possible and plenty of partypoker players have won their way into the KO Series’ bigger buy-in events for only $10 via this method.

KO Series Satellites
Those of you who prefer a traditional satellite can jump into the plethora of KO Series satellites that run around the clock each and every day. The KO Series Satellites award ticket to specific KO Series events, so check out the partypoker lobby if there’s an event you have your eye on.
Buy-ins start at a mere $0.11 which gives access to KO Series events to everyone. There are some $109 buy-in KO Series satellites too. These award tickets to the $1,111 One Shot which is a huge tournament.
Tournament Dollar Satellites
Head to the “Tourneys” tab and type “tournament dollar” into the search bar to bring up partypoker’s Tournament Dollar satellites.
These play out like a traditional satellite except they pay those who cash in tournament dollars rather than cash or tickets to specific events. Tournament dollars can be used for any of partypoker’s tournament offerings, from KO Series to its Daily Legends and more besides.
Take this route if you want a little more flexibility when it comes to choosing the events and tournaments partypoker spreads.
